WARTS
VERRUCAE – HPV
At LUNIQ, we specialize in safe, effective, and scar-free cryotherapy treatments for a wide range of benign skin lesions.
Clinical Appearance
These lesions have a rough, thick surface, irregular shape, and are often skin-colored or gray. They tend to have black pinpoint dots, which are thrombosed capillaries; meaning blood vessels blocked with dead blood cells. The normal skin lines are interrupted, and the surface is uneven.
Plantar warts grow on the feet, usually at the base of the foot or the sides of the toes. They are often surrounded by calluses and can be painful while walking. Pain may occur with pressure or friction. They are similar in appearance to common warts but tend to be flatter.
Warts commonly occur due to the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which infects the basal keratinocytes; the skin cells responsible for growth. The virus forces these cells into uncontrolled replication and creates a keratin layer to protect itself from the body’s immune system detection. As the cells grow, new blood vessels form to feed the lesion with oxygen and encourage further growth.
Preventions
As always, the best remedy is prevention. Avoid walking barefoot in public areas. Do not share footwear. Avoid wearing closed footwear without socks unless the shoes are open. Do not shave over warts; razors can irritate the area and increase the rate of growth. Keep your skin clean and dry. Use moisturizer in the evening before bed and in the morning when you start your day. Your immune system is your best defense; keep it strong with proper nutrition, exercise, vitamin C, and plenty of garlic.
Common Causes & Symptoms
Common causes and risk factors include skin trauma and recurrent friction in specific areas, which create hyperactivity of the skin cells and can lead to wart formation. A compromised or weakened immune system due to illness can also facilitate HPV infection, giving the virus a foundation for wart growth. A moist environment contributes as well; sharing footwear or razors, or walking barefoot in public areas such as pools and gyms, increases the risk of plantar warts. Prolonged exposure to such conditions contributes to the development of warts.
Why Cryotherapy Works
Cryotherapy destroys HPV-infected cells by collapsing the feeding blood vessels, depriving the lesion of oxygen and causing cell death. It also stimulates immune recognition of HPV antigens, helping the body’s immune system eliminate the virus.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is cryotherapy in aesthetics?
Cryotherapy in aesthetics is a treatment that uses controlled cold temperatures to target and eliminate unwanted skin concerns such as warts, skin tags, moles, age spots, or to refresh and tighten the skin. The cooling effect can also boost circulation and stimulate collagen production for a rejuvenated appearance.
Is cryotherapy safe?
Yes, when performed by a trained professional, cryotherapy is generally safe. The treatment is non-invasive, quick, and has minimal side effects, though some clients may experience temporary redness, tingling, or sensitivity in the treated area.
How long does a session take?
Most cryotherapy aesthetic sessions take between 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. It’s often referred to as a “lunchtime procedure” because of how quick and convenient it is.
Who should avoid cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, have uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe circulatory or heart conditions, cold sensitivity disorders (like Raynaud’s disease), or open wounds in the treatment area. A consultation is advised to ensure it’s the right option for you.
When will I see results?
Results can often be noticed immediately or within a few days, depending on the treatment type. For skin lesion removal (skin tags, moles, and warts), the treated area may darken, scab, and fall off naturally in 1–2 weeks. For rejuvenation purposes, improvements in skin tone and texture may be seen gradually over several sessions.
Where are you located?
We are located in Richmond Hill.
